What's THIS Blog Business All About?!

This is my very first blog post. Ever. It is surprisingly difficult trying to come up with a seemingly intelligent topic idea for your first ever blog post. What do I call it? What do I put in it? How do I set it up? How will I get people to read it? Do any of my ideas even sound appealing? All of these are questions that I have been asking myself for the past four days. FOUR days! Why on Earth did it take me four days to come up with a topic for my first post, you ask? Well, that would be because my life does not revolve around me, and I found it quite difficult to put together a list of topics that would draw someone to a blog that does not have any other posts. My life does however, revolve around my salon business (but more my nail business since I actually do nails, even though I own a full service salon), and because there are tons of video blogs and Facebook pages dedicated to nail art, I decided that wasn't the only content I wanted to include in my blog. I decided that MY blog is going to focus on quality instead of quantity, and I took to my personal Facebook page in an attempt to poll my friends list for ideas. I was offered one idea. Although it was a great idea, it was not a great idea for my first post. I guess that means you get to learn a little about me and why I have decided to turn this idea of a blog into a reality. Not all of my posts will be about me and my experiences, but some will, and it will be great.
So, Why Start A Blog Now?
My clients always ask for advice on what they should do to their hands to help keep them hydrated, to keep their cuticles nice, to keep their feet softer... and there's really more to it than just using lotion and coming in for manicures and pedicures. After six years of being a licensed manicurist, I thought I could benefit from writing down my techniques instead of repeating myself over and over again. Maybe a blog post would even be a nice reference to said clients when they ask the same question because they've forgotten the original recommendation. Plus, I recommend a lot of product to my clients, but I do not carry retail in my salon. Posting articles and reviews of those products will be my way of reminding people. You might see some sort of affiliate marketing every once in a while. That's because my goal is to partner with the brands that I use personally. Oftentimes, those products will be available for public purchase. If for some reason, I convince you to make a purchase based on my review or article, I encourage you to help me out by clicking the link or advertisement.
Why Not Just Post to Facebook?
That's an easy one. My Facebook page is dedicated to my salon, and to be honest, I really don't post much more than the occasional photo onto it. Blog posts will be shared, but would be too lengthy to post straight onto my page. Plus, it's better to post to more areas to increase visibility. Or at least, that's what I'm told.
Won't It Take Too Much Time? No. Just like every job, I have breaks between clients and since I work by appointment only, I have a lot of spare time. I can use that time to add a few sentences or paragraphs, or even to write an entire post. I'm dedicated to my work, and because of that I want to be sure that everyone is aware of many of the safety concerns attached to the nail biz. There's no such thing as spending too much time working, anyway, since in this line of work you should be willing to offer advice or recommendations to someone in need. It only takes a moment to respond.
